We appear to not care. This doesn't mean that we don't care. It just means we are better at concealing our feelings than other people are.

Pain, grief and sense of loss etc are normal human emotions but there is always a method to deal with them,if one so desires. The easiest way to deal with them is to ask, wasn't I ok before this happened? If yes, then say if this wasn't there say,a week or 10 days before, then it should also be not there after say,........days or so.This conveys to mind the short time dimension of the problem and a hope with expectations to be free from it ,any time soon. There are other methods also but one way or the other they all work upon our minds to impress upon the temporary nature of the occurrence.which lessens their impact and the magnitude.Mind is the most wonderful and strongest medium which can even nullify the feeling of pain and grief. We all can learn and practice it.It's really so easy.

Grief/sadness like all other emotions are individualistic in that their intensity is determined by the persons innate ratio of vulnerability vs resilience. These are determined primarily genetically, though there is an environmental component.
