because we have to put your feeling out to this person not knowing how they are going to react. the fear of rejection or humiliation is strong,but if you dont expose what u feel then that potential chance will maybe never happen. if u dont risk u dont succeed. i think ur awesome for going for what u want. maybe u will not always get a yes but who cares at least u tried.

It's called, fear of rejection. It's not that simple, but you have to relax and go very nonchalant, not displaying any form of fear or insecurity, one must work on that first and overcome it, conquer it, have you read the book: Do it afraid anyway.
That's what it's all about, doing things even if you are afraid, if you are still afraid, then wait and work on it for a short while but don't dwell on it much, because the other person doesn't know, doesn't care and is unaware you are that way, so all in all it's a big waste of time.

Maybe you don't like them much; if you do, then it should not be so hard to go up to them and show you want to get to know them better; just be your self or maybe a little nicer.
