Turkey has a lot of Muslims, but a lot of Christians and Jews too. Turkey is not a fundamentalist country at all, and will never be. There are actually laws AGAINST women covering their faces. I went to Istanbul last year and had a really time. The people are just like us Americans....In fact they love Americans! They like to party and drink and spend time with friends and have a good time. Turkey is not like the other Islam countries in that the Turkish government is secular, and not ruled by religion. Anyone has the freedom to practice whatever religion they want in Turkey. So to answer your question, no, Turkey is not becoming an "Islamic" country. It is very much a free democracy like a lot of European countries. They even use the Euro in some parts!

I don't think so based on the history of the most recent AK government. I think the AK party will be more tolerant of Islamic religious expression in Turkey making it closer to the view of religion taken by most Western Democracies. I do not think there is any real chance of the AK party enacting Sharia as the law of Turkey.

Hopefully, the European Union will take note of the efforts of the AK party to modernize Turkey and will give serious consideration to letting Turkey join the European Union.

No. That party has publicly severed its ties to any Salafist movement. Turkey will remain a secular state because it is in their best interests to be so. Their application for full EU membership would wind up in the shredder if they decided to become a pale imitation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Yes. I think so. I don't know whether this a bad thing or not though.. So far from what I have seen though, it seems anything that has to do with Islamic politics is something out of the cave man era and or very violent. This may seem prejudice. But I really haven't seen anything positive.. and it's not because I don't look.. The last thing I want to be is prejudice.
