Yahoo Answers is not a forum although technically it functions like one.

It is a web application that allows registered users to post questions and answers. The Questions and Answer's lists of a user are tracked in a Database.

It is written in PHP and uses Javascript for client side scripting.

Nothing fancy about the application technically.

Yeah it is a "forum" by older lingo, the asker opens a thread and ppl respond to it, storing to a database. Quite typical of tiered web applications.

As for the language used, no one can say for sure, PHP, Python, ASP, JSP/Java Servlet, even Perl can be it. They are processed internally and we all just get the processed output from it.
