I know I am not that big but there are and were lots of small linebackers out there. For example, Buster Davis, Dat Nyguen, Zach Thomas, Lofa Tatupu, Sam Mills, HB Blades, etc. I live my life by the saying "it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." I know I am not the prototypical middle linebacker size but I can play. I am not bragging but I play with attitude and I play so pissed off sometimes my coach has to pull me out of the game. My linebacker coach played at michigan and he said he knows for a fact i am going to play college football, he just does not know what level. What level do you think I will play? Am I d1 material? I certainly have the grades I am an honor roll student. The only thing against me is I play in MA which is not known for great football, but i still play against the best competition in the state. I am not the biggest, but I know for a fact I can hit. Can I play d1? Plz answer truthfully. If you played d1 plz answer.

From what i see on rivals.com, most elite LBs Bench 300+ and squat 400+. So as a sophmore you're definitly on your way.
P.S. Thanks for not being one of those idiots who asks, "I run a 5.6 40. is that fast?" God...

I think you could play D1 football but its hard to say at what level. You have great desire and play with an attitude, but can you cover D1 backs coming out of the backfield? Can you jam the tight end off the LOS? It will depend on what system you fit in and also how fast you become once in college. Make a video of your practices and games send them to colleges you like to attend, or coaches that you know. If you are a player they will find you. Go to the school that you can get the most playing time the quickest and be a leader on and of the field. You might have to change positions in college to strong safety or fullback. Work on speed. SPEED KILLS!

It be hard but maybe, depends on how you play, but your not that fast though, most undersize middle linebackers run pretty fast at least a 4.5 or 4.6. and most of those guys except for Buster Davis are at least 5'10. But like you say if you have the heart and desire anything can happen. I was 5'11 and 185 and i was considered small for safety and i ran a 4.6. but it has to do more with your skill and techniche, and i live in southern california were everybody is big and strng, lol. good luck though.

Your size, strength, and speed sound ok. But 5'8 is too short for a d1 MLB. Have you thought about FB. If you can block and catch passes it might be your best chance at d1. If you are a die-hard defensive nut like me, try to add some more muscle (so you don't have to sacrifice speed) and weight and try DT or NG. Good luck.

You seem like you have talent. Your size might prevent you from playing in of the top programs like Florida, Ohio State, USC, etc. but if you have talent based on where you live I could see a bunch of MAC or a few Conference USA schools showing interest in you.
Still continue to lift, improve your speed and start having a parent or friend make a highlight reel of your playing and mail it to coaches.

HONESTLY, I think you can if you keep working at it.... I think you maybe should drop some weight though 'cause if you do, you may be able to get your 40 down by a tenth of a second or so (4.6-something to a 4.7) and as we all know, tenths of seconds make big differences. And if you've been gaining lots of weight by the yrs., that might catch up to you as you go into college so start losing now? That's just what I think, good luck though.

Hey, you have the smarts and the desire and no one can take that away from you. Ask your coach, He is probably the best source at what level he thinks you can play. I grew up in Massachusetts and I agree you just don't see a lot of talent. Good luck follow your dreams and hope to see you in the NFL someday.

I played division 2 football. I'd say you are two small and to slow for a LB in any division 1 football, also to slow for a S and to small for a DL. You look like division 2 or 3 material to be honest.
