What can I do about this? He should have been more careful. I asked him before the closing for the final numbers but he said I'll see the details at the closing but that I was not paying for anything extra. He sends me the documentation and I see that I paid an extra sum that I shouldn't have paid. Is there anything I can do now to be refunded for that sum (around $600).

There was an assessment that was due before the closing. The place I bought is part of a complex and the assessment was paid in addition to the maintenance. Acc to the contract I was only responsible for part of the assessment but now I see that I paid for the whole sum.

Any reputable mortgage company or bank will make sure you get a refund.

There is no way that anyone can answer your question because you don't state the details of WHY you think you were overcharged.

Settlement statements are very complex, and it can be very difficult to sort through them if you are not familiar with them.

Keep in mind that before your loan was "funded" by the bank...the bank ALSO reviewed the settlement statement in great detail and double checked all of the numbers, and it's actually the lender that will catch most of the descrepancies...because the lender also has to make sure that everything is collected for.

Chances are slim that there was a $600 mistake on your purchase.

Please post where the extra $600 came from, and I'll be happy to edit my answer and try to answer your question.

They will send you a refund but you might have to ask.
