Bag of Bones, The Shining, The Red Dragon, Hannibal, Silence of the Lambs, Christine, Desperation, Firestarter, Gerald's Game...and pretty much anything else Stephen King or Thomas Harris.

Hmm. Im a fan of Stephen King actually. He has a very nice style of writing but his books can get bad as in adult content. My personal favorites are..
The Shinning
The Girl Who Loves Tom Gordon
The Eyes of the Dragon (not as scary. Has a more midevil feel)
The Dead Zone
IT
And Then there Were None.
Thats about all i can think of right now..

Like those two above already said, the girl next door and the traveling vampire show are both very good books. I would also recommend The cellar by richard laymon and Hell House by richard matheson. Hell House was very creepy.
Gotta go or I'd recommend more

the girl next door by Jack Ketchum
About these kids who are friends, when one of the families takes in two female cousins (after their parents die) an almost unbelievable story unfolds.. I can't say anymore without giving it away.. Very unusual.. and as unbelievable as it sounds at first.. it gets way TOO believable way too fast.. That had to be one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever read, but it was also very well written..
or
Harvest Home by Thomas Tryon
Always been one of my favorite..
About a couple moving in to a small town in New England.. where things aren't exactly as they thought..
