I have seen fromthe time as a child that Indians show their patriotism only for the Indian Cricket team. We have super talented people who do loads by bringin pride to the country in toher sports too. Forget supporting them, we don't even know them. Why is that so? Media is one of them to blame who beat over kill the Cricket story jsut because it sells................

U are partially correct that indians show their patriotism more for the crkt team but still there are crores and crores of Indians who really show their patriotism in the military department ,social service department and many more..
The only problem is that they are not brought into light through media....Media gives importance more to entertainment and crkt because of money...
But still it is necessary that we our duty sincerely and need not expect that it must be known to everyone.......This is my opinion...

Nothing wrong with it.
It is one's choice to support any team...
But going too far either side is stupid and that is what most fans
do, rather than understanding the cause and effect.
No doubt, Indian cricketers are hyped to an extent even though
I am a strong supporter of Indian cricket...
But the problem is, these cricketers sometimes do not work
hard, do not play in domestic competition and use excuses
when they do not perform.
Media also puts the hype much stronger than they should.

India, unlike Western nations, Russia or even some Caribbean islands, is not a great sporting nation. We haven't been for a long time now. Education and work matter a lot more because we have to struggle to make ends meet. Israel is just like India, they are developed, still they are not a great sporting nation. Just like in India, over there, academics matters more than sports. The reason why cricket cought on is because we get this great India Pakistan rivalry.

Since cricket is most popular game in India and generating more revenues as compared to other games, lot of importance is being given by the Media for this game. That is the reason why other sports are not getting their importance in India.

because of the following reasons:
1. India is one of the TOP recognised countries in cricket .
2.Unlike other sports , Cricket is played for the whole year .It just does not stop . So it keeps in touch of the people everytime.
3.It is a sport in which we get to see the classic clash of INDIA-PAKISTAN . In other sports it does not happen that often.
4.It is one of the few sport in which we are TOE to TOE with our historical rivals ENGLAND.
5. It is the only sport played in different variants like ODIs, Test matches ,20-20 & different departments like Batting , Bowling ,Fielding etc. Other sports does not have that much variety.
6.Our player SACHIN TENDULKAR is the best batsman in the world.
7. This games connects us emotionally . Emotions can not be controlled by anyone . So if we like like it then we like it .
If u dont then u have choice of watching other sports .No one stops u .its a matter of personal choice. I hope u got it in your brain.

Cricket story does not have to be the only story that sells it can be so many stuff like even tennis for example..... what a player Sania Mirza is but she is getting a lot of attention maybe its for the answer she gave about why she wears such short skirts but we are not discussing that point............. Mahesh Bhupati also gets some attention and are we forgetting Hockey both men and women teams?
