ok one of my friends decided to put a ZEX Nitrous Oxide kit on his race car today and one of my other friends started a conversation about how nitrous isnt really flammable but my friend that has the race car swore up and down that it was, becuase he saw it blow a car up. (he later admits it was on the movie Fast and the furious.) but anyway my question is, Is it really flammable??

Every single "fact" you see in "the fast and the furious" is ALL LIES!!

Nitrous BY ITSELF will NOT burn. It must have fuel a long with it.

first off, all the dumbasses who say oxygen doesn't burn should go read a book, or better yet get yourself a tank of pure oxygen, open the valve and light up a cigarette. not only is it flammable, it is explosive. I thought every school child new that fact. and trying to run a car on straight N2O will blow it up, though not in the way it happens in Fast and Furious

It is a rapid accelerant that does burn--it burns hotter than gasoline--and a gas that will give a car a real boost. Make sure the car is OK--no time to have a suspension part snap or the tires blow out---mostly a waste of money--what does it prove?? It is a lame way to attract women--or is it guys?? Whatever--the car will go fast--and is only as good as the driver--so if the driver is a dope and the car is a junker--the driver will probably wind up dead.

When in use, nitrogen oxide is split up to release its oxygen. Oxygen itself doesn't burn, and fuel without oxygen doesn't burn either. its the combination of oxygen, fuel and energy source to power the reaction that cause it to burn.

Nitrous oxide is use to add more oxygen into the burning mixture in your engine. nitrous oxide itself can't burn without fuel. so, it's not going to blow up the car. You can't learn anything from movies like that.

No, Nitrous oxide adds oxygen. If you inject nitrous you must also inject fuel.

It is highly flammable, the oxygen component makes it even more flammable

If you punch a hole in the canister and hold a lighter to it yeah, but other than that it's not really a risk.
