I'm making a teddy bear for my nephew, but I'm not the best sewer in the world and I'm stumped. What does "dart" mean? A simple explanation for a total beginner would be wonderful. Or an easier guide for teddy making then the one I have.

Please help.

A dart is where you pinch the fabric to make it curve. On your bear, you may have a dart on each side of its head and on each paw.

On the pattern, a dart will look like a triangle or a wedge. Trace the lines onto your fabric, or mark it with pins, and fold the fabric along those lines. The excess material from the "pinch" will be hidden inside the bear.

All that I know about dart is that it is a brand of sewing pins and needles.

Is this what you mean?

Darts help create shape, or in garments, help to fit the garment better, especially at the bustline (for us ladies).
