Whats the likelihood I could start a new career @ 45? Attain degree in Bus admin, Int'l Bus or Financial mgmt. Or should I just get a small bus certificate from local jc (jr. college), work hard, save money and open my own business? Reaction!!!!

I vote the own your own business route. You're already 45, and while it's never too late to learn something new, a lot of companies looking to hire new talent may consider you too old (I'm not trying to be mean, my father in law had to look for a new job not long ago, and he got age discrimination like that), especially in business. Hey, plus after 45 years, do you really want someone else telling you want to do still? :)

It is all depending on what you are doing now and what you would like to do in the future. Even though it is never too late for career switch but you don't have the luxury to waste a few years studying something you are uncertain about the prospect. Need to do marketing survey if you are planning to start your business and generally be prepared to cover the expenses for the first 2 years.

If you already know what you're doing, open that business.
Otherwise, it's never too late to go to school. A 90+ year old woman just graduated college this year in the US.

I went back to school at age 43 -- getting an MBA at 45 and a PhD in Finance at 49. It isn't easy -- but it can be done.

I'm proof that you can change careers at that age.
