Two options -- talk to them, or ignore them.
And ignoring other countries is just bad political practice, because far more often than not, ignoring them just causes major problems.
That doesn't mean formal diplomatic missions and press conferences, but it does mean keeping diplomatic channels open, even if at the lower levels within the state department.

I have really mixed feelings on this. on one side it gives the legitimacy, but on the other if they can be brought out of their anti social behavior yes. From what you are asking I think you are referring to N. Korea and Iran. N. Korea yes, the ruler wants recognized as a 'Player" with the big boys, but with Iran, the only way I would talk to them is after we completely eliminated their nuclear program with a few nuclear JDAMS same with Syria. I am not what to do about Somalia and Dafur, I think some general house keeping and paddling of all is in order there. Crime, punishment and discipline have to be backed up with action so others will fully understand NO means NO, and so on.
As for the politicians they have been blowing off the USA and just because there is a new person in the white house, I do not think that will make one bit of difference, except to maybe embolden them.

We need to talk to all nations. Isolating rogue nations does not usually bring them around. Refusing to deal with a Palestinian government just made Hamas stronger.
We also need to stop making a reasonable outcome of negotiations a prerequisite to start negotiations.
Look at what was achieved in North Korea - without needing to kill a bunch of civilians or blast an economy back to the stone age we were able to convince them to turn off thier nuclear reactor.
Sure talk won't always work - but it should at least be tried.

We need to talk to everyone. Open communication is the only way to solve problems without going to war. We have had this chimp in office for over six years and he has solved NOTHING. Time for someone to step up to the plate and make those bold moves.
We have to change our foreign policy to one that accepts other nations. Not every nation wants to be like us despite the rhetoric that politicians tell us. Bill Maher has is right when he states that we are not the greatest nation in the world, we are the greatest nation in the world for us.

Of course you get into a dialogue with them as quickly as possible. not only do you stand a better chance of fixing whatever problem there is, but you also show the rest of the world that King George's legacy is far in the past.

I thought Hillary's answer was RIDICULOUS! Are you telling me that we can't talk to certain countries because they might try to use the talks for propaganda purposes? We only talk if it's in our interest to do so. We factor in the propaganda risk and beat the propagandists at their own game. We don't hide out of fear that they might take advantage of the situation.
