It's extemely expensive - so get all the info you need before you start this process. I don't know the hospital you are refering to so no help there...

You will need a doctor that will be willing to do this for you - look for a fertility specialist in your area. They are equiped to hande this type of thing. A regular OB/GYN will not be able to help you.

The man's job is easy - masturbate into a cup. The sperm gets washed and then frozen.

The woman has a much tougher road. She must take injectible medication to stimulate her ovaries so that they produce multiple eggs. The meds can be self injected - although it is seriously not fun. The meds are hard to deal with - physically and mentally. Imagine having serious PMS that lasts for weeks...

Once the eggs are ready for "harvest" she must go under anesthesia to have them extracted from her body with a long suction needle that is inserted into the vagina and up through into the abdominal cavity to the area of the ovaries.

Throughout this process the woman must go in for frequent ultrasounds and bloodwork - almost every other day. She must also curtail physical activity - no running, crunches, or anything that will shake the abdomen for risk of twisting or torsing an ovary.

There is risk that the woman could develop ovarian hyper-stimulation which would lead to hospitalization. There are lots of other risks involved also - too many to go over here...some can lead to impaired fertility, though.

Let me know if you have any other questions - I'll be happy to help.

No, a hospital can't help you, you need a fertility specialist. Your partner's sperm can be easily saved. Your eggs cannot be saved unless they're fertilized -- anyone who tells you otherwise is using techniques that are mostly unproven and almost never work (three cases). However, the better thing to do is to get fertility counseling and think about actually having children. You will find that having a child by yourself is so difficult and expensive that it is better not to plan for the crisis that will probably never come. You're probably not going to die. If one of you did die, would the other be prepared financially and emotionally to raise a child alone?
