I am an American, with Liberal views. But I also see myself as a Progressive, because (like Hillary said on the YouTube debates) the term Liberal has become a bad thing. It's not, but that's what it's become.

Progressive refers to someone who only follows the liberal social agenda (but not the liberal free market model), or who advocates for a specific change, rather than being open to general change in any direction.

Because Fox news made "liberal" feel so dirty. Like we are pinko, commie, Stalinists that hate freedoms. So we now say progressive. Liberal in the traditonal sense is a pro-democracy and freedoms ideal. But neo-cons and Faux made it seem so bad. Gotta go work my 2nd job so I can pay my health insurance bill $180/week....can't talk now..gotta make the insurance companies LOTTSA $$$$$

And it's because I don't particularly like communism, the ultimate goal of the liberals.
