The other answers are helpful. System restore it good but it may not recognize programs that you installed since the last save point. As for viruses, they may not work any more, but it doesn't mean they are gone. And for limewire, do this:
Click start, run and type in "msconfig" without the quotes. This won't work if you have Win2000 though. Click on the "Startup" tab and it will display a list of all programs that boot with your PC. Find limewire, uncheck the box, apply, close and reboot. Limewire will no longer startup any more unless you reinstall it. The program will still operate, but you'll have to click on the icon on your desktop or in the start menu.

I have used system restore a few times and I love it. if your computer starts running slow and it was running good about 2 days ago, go to system restore and go back to that date when it was doing good. If you dowload something and put it on your desktop you might have to download it again.

limewire always starts by itself. you can turn that off. system restore doesnt typically do bad. it doesnt delete or modify your files. it only gets rid of the bugs. id say-go for it if its a problem. i only use system restore when my computer goes insane and i am incapable of doing anything because then its a trojan.

Install good Virus Protection and spy/ad --ware programs.
Update and run Virus Protection and spy/ad --ware programs.
You may not have to do a restore.
Good Luck.
