Charging system is working (good/bad) alternator is doing enough to keep the inginition going and electric fuel pump running. That is not a good test however a alternator with a bad diode can do the same thing. And that bad diode can drain the battery over night. A/C headlights and rear window defogger and above loads all really strain the charging systems, Battery is there only to start the car so the charging system can take over.

The battery only stores power to start the car--after that it runs from power made by the alternator. The alternator power also recharges the battery. That is it--cables can be taken off with the car running--it just won't recharge the battery. Why are you doing that anyway?? Bored??

Indicates that the alternator is producing enough current for the engine to run.
DON'T make a practice of this. It can cause harm to the PCM as well as damage the alternator.

your battery is losing charge cause your leaving your ignition in the acc position stop doing that and your battery should maintain its charge
