at 4 weeks well 5 weeks the baby is like no larger than a kidney bean, well ill look it up and post the link i could be off a little.. give me a sec..
ok this is what it said for 5 weeks on babycenter.com
a sesame seed, pretty darn tiny@!!
Deep in your uterus your embryo is growing at a furious pace. At this point he's about the size of a sesame seed, and he looks more like a tiny tadpole than a human. He's now made up of three layers — the ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm — that will later form his organs and tissues. The cells are forming for his major organs, including his kidneys and liver, and his neural tube is beginning to develop. This neural tube — from which your baby's brain, spinal cord, nerves, and backbone will sprout — develops in the top layer, called the ectoderm. This layer will also give rise to his skin, hair, nails, mammary and sweat glands, and tooth enamel. His heart and circulatory system begin to form in the middle layer, or mesoderm. (This week, in fact, his tiny heart begins to divide into chambers and beat and pump blood.) The mesoderm will also form your baby's muscles, cartilage, bone, and subcutaneous (under skin) tissue. The third layer, or endoderm, will house his lungs, intestines, and rudimentary urinary system, as well as his thyroid, liver, and pancreas. In the meantime, the primitive placenta and umbilical cord, which deliver nourishment and oxygen to your baby, are already on the job.
Good luck!

Hi hon, I am so sorry for what you are going thru. You are not alone. I went thru (still going thru) the same thing! I also have a tilted uterus and thought maybe that was why things werent visible. I had no bleeding or cramping when I went for my 1st u/s which was transvaginal on 9/16, I was measuring at 6wks 0days. Doc saw yolk sac and fetal pole but no h/b. I had a 2nd u/s on 9/19 and at that time the fetal pole was gone. HCG levels was 6800. I started spotting on 9/20 but still no cramping. On 9/22 HCG level was down to 5100. It was then that I finally started accepting it. on 9/23 I saw a different OB and he reviewed my blood work and u/s and confirmed what I now finally was believing , that I miscarried. He did an internal exam and by now I was cramping and bleeding a bit more. I actually started passing the pregnancy tissue (sorry if it is TMI) right after I left his office. I was stuck in the bathroom at the hospital and was gushing blood and very large clots. There was no way for me to get any help and I managed to get cleaned up enough that I could get to the elevator and out of there! I got home and for the next 2-3 hours was bleeding very heavy and finally passed what I imagine was the sac etc. No one prepared me for what it would be like and I refused a D&C because I thought my 1st doc was wrong and I didn't want to risk any injury.. Everyone wants you to have hope, but I have found that no matter what it says on the internet, sadly the doctor looking at a u/s end up being right. I hope you can find comfort and get through this. It is very traumatic if you pass the material naturally but to me, I felt better letting nature do it than having the D&C . (I can't stop thinking that it is just like an abortion, even though the embryo has already died). I hope I did not offend anyone with all this graphic info. I just don;t want the poster to be blindsided by the unexpected . The doctors said to me, it will be like a bad period, you weren't that far along etc. That was BS*** PS. All ladies worried about u/s info. Questions to ask. How big is the gestational sal, is there a yolk sac?, is there a Fetal pole. This should all be present by 6 weeks 6.5 tops and visible on a transvaginal (Tilted uterus inlcuded). If there is a well defined fetal pole but no heartbeat it is a very bad sign. This was confirmed to me by a magternal fetal medicine specialist as well as my OB. I hate to sound crude, but if you are certain of your conception date, as I was, it makes it hard but once I knew the facts, there was nothing else I could do but accept it.

Yes, I had that experience with my first! I found out I was pregnant with my first at 3 weeks, had a doctors appt. a week later- and due to irregular periods, calculated in the doctors office to be 11 weeks pregnant. After a short examination he sent me in for an immediate ultrasound to see how far along I was b/c my cervix wasn't matching up.
Sono tech- revealed a gestational sac- with no baby, no heartbeat. I was so upset. My doctor explained I would be sent for blood tests to see if my hormonal levels were doubling. (b/c the sono tec was really scaring me about how I probably miscarried, she was new and lacked bedside manner- (just what I needed right?!)
A week later- my levels were okay- so my doctor scheduled another sono- and told me most likely he'd send me in for a D&C that weekend- I went in for the sonogram- and (there was another tech doing it this time). Pulled up my gestational sac- and inside was a healthy little heartbeat- that had JUST recently began to beat. I found out I was exactly 6 wks pregnant.
I now have a beautiful Three year old daughter (almost 3).
They can't see anything in an ultrasound prior to 5 weeks and sometimes they won't see anything until almost 6 weeks. As long are your levels are doubling- you'll be able to see your lil' prince or princess soon- and it will be with a heartbeat!
Good Luck to you and Baby Dust** :)

With my first I had my first ultrasound around 5 weeks and all we could see was a little circle no heartbeat. I think this early it doesn't show up. I had a wonderful pregnancy and a very healthy girl. Relax. There is nothing to worry about at this point. Good luck.

Yeah with my first pregnacy it was like that I was really scared around 8 weeks, they did another ultrasound and I could see him. Around 15-16 wks they can tell you the sex. Don't be alarmed there isn't much to see at 1 month. You will see him or her soon. Congrats and good luck

Go to babycenter.com - there you will find out that the baby hasn't formed yet. It's still a bunch of cells. That's why you can't see it yet. I've never heard of anyone have an ultrasound this early. Relax!

My friend went in at 5 and a half weeks and saw the same thing: empty sac....but she went in later and saw baby and heartbeat...so if your doctor told you not to worry, then right now you should not worry! Good luck!
