Yes, in fact it is the ONLY solution to that equation:

10 - 10x = 40
-10x = 30
x = 30/(-10)
x = -3

Checking:

10 - 10x = 40
10 - 10 * (-3) =? 40
10 - (-30) =? 40
10 + 30 =? 40
40 = 40

-10 -10

-10x = 40 - 10

-10x = 30
