I have an old porcelin tub and it gets dingy fast so I use just regular bleach.. I fill the tub with really hot water and pour in about 2-3 C. bleach and let it sit.. I also spray the tile surround with 50/50 solution of bleach and let that sit as well. .When the water cools I drain the tub and the soap scum is gone.. For really tough stains I use soft scrub with bleach and a green no scratch brillo pad make of nylon... Good luck

I have an older bathtub that I to had a hard time getting clean. This is what worked for me.
A little bleach mixed with some liquid dish soap. Sprinkle about the bathtub some cascade or dishwasher soap. Then put the soap and bleach mixture in and let it set a few minutes. Works like a dream. Make sure to have on a fan or good ventilation . It probably is not to safe to mix all these products and so be care full.

If the tub is an older one, no amount of cleaners is going to get it sparkling white. It will need to be refinished. You can have it done professionally, or there are kits you can buy to do it yourself.

Check a local home store like Home Depot or whatever is in your area, or do a search for tub refinishing.

And once it's refinished, use a cleanser that is specifically made for cleaning tubs, preferably one like Soft Scrub.

I love my BarKeepers Friend (Wal-Mart cleaning isle). It is in a gold canister like Comet only it works way better than any other cleaner I have ever encountered. I use it when bleach won't touch a stain whether it is on formica or porcelain this stuff works. I just make a paste of it and let it sit for a few minutes then come back and it scrubs right out with a mildly abrasive scrubber.

Your tub got over sparkled I guess. You wore it out.

Depending on what it is actually made of, harsh cleaners and abrasives can do a lot of damage, open up porous materials, allow bodyoils and water deposits to get into the pores, it gets dingy, and you go and use more chemicals to clean it, making it even more porous.

You can get it refinished. Its a professional job, cost $200-$400, depending on who you find, and your area.

The main ingredient you need is elbow grease. Personally I find that just plain ole baking soda "can" work wonders. If that doesn't do it for you, you could try wetting your tub with lemon juice and then using borax to scrub it with. Sorry, but I don't know of any easy solutions.

The only thing you can do at this point is to get it refinished proffessionaly. You see, all the 'shine' has been scrubbed off. If its porcelain it can be done. Otherwise your stuck.I know, I've used every cleaner known to mankind till I figured it out. I've been scrubbing away the finish!

If your tub is an older one, why not check into getting it refurbished or refinished. Makes it sparkle like new.
