Plums, grapes, lemons, grapefruit, pears all grow from my backyard. I have enjoyed all the fruit trees that were planted there before I moved into this house three yrs ago. I just water them and don't use any chemicals. I just wash them and enjoy. BUT I just wanted to know if it was SAFE to eat the fruit?

why are you doubting it, first place? Do you have any notion that the place could be somehow toxically loaded due to previous use of the land whatever it was or from heavy traffic nearby? if yes then you should have the soil or the fruit tested. (pesticides, heavy metals, petroleum products, levels of nitrates etc.- It depends on the chemicals used by the previous owner - they could use plenty of pesticides, or run a workshop from which stuffs could have leaked into the soil.) if this is not the case - then what makes you ask? Like fruit always grows from dirt, even the fruit sold in shops..

Certainly! The stuff from your back yard is probably safer than the stuff at your grocery store, since you don't put chemicals on your trees. It sounds like you have a wonderful back yard; eat up, and enjoy!
