I think there are plenty of people who were born here who have no business running this country to be honest.
But specifically to your question, I think that this country being so young and made up mostly of folks from other parts of the world at least by a few generations back, it would be fine to take away that rule. 50 years ago, maybe a different story.
Maybe though we should have a rule against actors running for office though? just kidding. kinda.
Obviously you wouldn't want a guy (or gal) fresh in our country gaining political office. That has too many obvious problems. But if the powers that be decided that a citizen with at least say, 30 years under his/her belt could be considered, well I think that would be fine.
Remember, anyone running for President is still under the microscope from all angles and that would include any life before the US> In the end, the voters make the decision who gets to the White house. (at least that's whats supposed to happen right?)

Yes, I can't imagine anyone who can understand what it took to get to the place America was prior to G. Bush, to understand what it will take to get us back to that place once again. If you came from a Country that is used to Dictatorship, you will be used to using that as a way to run the country. America is so far from what our forefathers fought to make it, that we are allowing a man who dictates and passes or allows other people to pass laws that we haven't been privvy to or allowed to vote on, to pass without a thought to what the people of America think or if we want it to go thru. What kind of country does that? A country run on Dictatorship, I'm so sick of hearing people say, " There's no way to stop this, we can't do anything about it!"
What are we saying? What have we become when a couple of men can just tell us what we will do? We aren't the country that everyone eles respected and wanted to live in, we are now the country that is run by the Government, not the country that American's decide what goes on in it. The Government, the President, the Vice President, and all of our Congressmen, and Senators, are representatives of the American people, they are not the decider's. President G. W. Bush, is not the decider, he is not the last word, he shouldn't even be in our White House anymore, and he can take his Vice President and his rodent, Karl Rove, out of our historical White House, they need to be audited by the IRS, all of the accounts they hold over-seas, they need to be drug tested, and put on trial by the American people, and said, Good Riddens to BAD TRASH. They are bad enough, can you imagine, someone who doesn't know what it took to make the United States what it was, as President, just think of what we would lose, when we have already lost so much to an American President with nothing but rotten politics pumping thru his blood already. Sorry but that's the Facts, Jack, go ahead and tell me I'm wrong!!!

Let's say that your parents are both from America but you are born overseas while they are vacationing or on a job assignment. Are you considered a born American? I think it is important you are born in a country who plan to run. Not all countries have this requirement. For example, Hitler was not born in Germany. He was born in Austria. It would be like a Canadian running America. Look at the problems he caused.

No.. But then again, I can't say that without being prejudice. So I guess to be fair, I would have to say yes.. For instance, I wouldn't have a problem with Mr. Shwartz....( however you spell is name) running for President, but then again. I would definitely have a problem with somebody who is of Middle Eastern descent coupled with being Islamic being the President or running for it. So, since I can not fairly say that as far as anybody being the President because the truth is I would not feel comfortable in somebody that were Afghanistan running for President, even if he were raised here all is life. I am stereotyping but.. ....

I'm going to assume you mean "Born a Citizen", as children can be born outside the U.S. and still be eligible to become president.(for instance parents in the military, etc.)
I think that it is probably a good idea otherwise. I mean, even if the person would be an excellent choice for the job, there is bound to be at least one person who is equally qualified.

If you are thinking of Arnold Schwartzenegger as a potential candidate, I think that he would be a legitimate example of a reason to amend the rule of requiring US birth. He has done a wonderful job in California of bridging the differences between Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives in the legislature.
I don't know if he has qualifications for foreign and international relations, let alone managing a war. I would not necessarily vote for him if he were a presidential candidate but I do think that he is a foreign born citizen who would make a good presidential candidate.

Yes.... I think a presidents barckground should be able to be well checked. Which is not possible since some countries governments are corrupt and personal paperwork can easily be forged for little money.

Yes the constitution says it! IF the rest of the world wishes to change it, they can take the time & effort to do it legally. It would take them at least 30 + years to change it. I forgot we are talking about people that believe everyone is entitled to everything.
CAN a US citizen be the leader of any other country just by being voted in?
