So that parents can research their babysitters or daycares. I think there should be...do you know how many children die or are injured each year at the hands of these people...then the parents find out that they have multiple accounts of child abuse.

Not all sitters have to belicenesed therfore it is up to the parents to find out about these people before they hire them...and to do that costs money....they should have to be registered...why aren't some of you eager to protect our children.

realistically...people are always going to need child care...that's just the way it is. So they should be protected in any way we can.

I am in this career field. Day care worker and soon to be owner.
For someone to work in a day care they have to have a clean record. Police reports must be shown before they can work in the day care and the employer can request an updated one whenever they please. Also drug tests can be done as well.
When I own my day care I will be doing random drug testing all the time and demand a police report every 6 months. If a person fails a test or has a crime against them they are fired on the spot. It will say so in the contract. Also applied for drinking.
I will NOT allow someone around children who should not be there.
People pay a lot of money for child care and they deserve the very best.
As far as what a parent can do for a babysitter you can say I'd like to see a police report and drug test before hiring you plus references. If the person refuses then simply do not hire them.

I agree with you... if you're good to children, why would you care about the registry? I think if you abuse a child your rights or protection or whatever is over! That is one of the worst things a person can do. These children are so innocent and mostly children love all people. It's really sad to see a child being abused by the very people they believe to care about them...

Absolutely!
Also, any provider should lose their liscense after a second conviction. People deserve chances, but not a second chance in regards to this situation!
First time offenses are not handled right in the judicial system, in my opinion - the punishments need to be more harsh and the probation periods much longer .....

ABSOLUTELY NOT because Childcare Providers who have been convicted of child abuse shouldn't be allowed to become childcare providers.
If anyone says Yes, then they agree that convicted child abusers should be allowed to become childcare providers, and I don't think they should be allowed to get that far.

I totally agree with you here, there was just a case here in Atl about 6 months back, and the woman had even had D.U.I. charges WHILE DRIVING THE DAYCARE VAN! She was the owner, and the place is closed down now, but there had been prior reports that parents didn't know about...

Yes, definately! I think there should be some way to check and see if your daycare is caring for your children or not. Daycares are so horrible and so unregulated these days that I would never take my kids to one. You wouldn't believe the stuff that goes on in those places.

I believe in Michigan it's required to do a background check on potential childcare employees.
You're right, it really should be a national law.
