Hey girl. I have a solution for you. I love all animals and have had all you are curious about. But.....
Chinchillas are somewhat useless and just cute.
Birds are very messy and loud - always when you want quiet.
Ferrets are so-o-o-o-o cool and my favorite on your list.
However, they are high maintenance, smelly, need their litterbox changed daily, need at least 3-4 hours out of their cage daily and sometimes chew. I had 2 and they lived for almost 10 years. I adored them but they are not easy. Also, all these animals fall under the category of exotic pets and will cost you more at the vet. Lizards too.
You expressed no interest in a cat or dog. The most rewarding thing you could do is visit your local animal shelter and check out what is up for adoption. A kitten is a far better choice for someone your age and a lot easier to manage. Think of the life you can save and the difference you can make in a homeless animals life.

I'd say rats.. (please get 2.. you may have all summer, but they get lonely.. and when summer ends they still need company) I loved my rat.. (I only had one, but I also brought it everywhere I went except work) Easy to care for.. they do have a kind of chalky smell to them.. but, keep the bedding clean, get a nice cage with several floor so it has room to move and climb.. (or make one out of an old dresser) and they are wonderful.

Hamsters are pretty good too.. but be very sure you research and spend the time to get the right one.. the wrong choice and you will most likely end up leaving it locked up in a cage and never paying attention to it because it is mean..

Birds are expensive if you get a good one (hand fed by breeder).. if you get one cheap you risk having one that isn't a great pet.. either doesn't want to be around people, or has health issues.. (I've had 6 birds.. 3 were hand raised)

Chinchillas and sugar gliders are a bit too tempermental... almost fragile.. changes in weather that go unnoticed by you and they get sick.. So, I'd say wait until you have more experience with rodents..

Ferrets.. clean clean clean.. they have a VERY strong smell .. (not bad, just strong).. it will not be overwhelming unless the bedding does not get changed enough.. they need a larger cage, and more room to exercise and play..

Guinea Pigs.. are decent.. but as already said.. skittish at first.. (and may still be skittish when summer is over..)

Rabbits are a good pet.. (I had one that was loose in my house like a cat most of the time).. personality is a factor of course (as with all animals), but they are able to take care of themselves for the most part.. the cages get dirty fast.. so once again, clean clean clean.. (Dirty bedding in cages of ANY animal smells nasty and can cause major health issues from amonia build up)

ANY animal can bite..

I can tell you that ferets can be very high maintenance and costly. They also tend to be nocturnal and can be quite loud as they like to scratch and play around with their food and litter box.
Chinchillas are also nocturnal and require a specific diet (with lots of roughage) that must be adapted and changed carefully. They also require large cages and a very consistent routine, but they can become quite tame and playful.
In terms of birds, it really depends on the species of bird. Some are more tame and require less care than others. If you're seriously interested in a bird, do some research to determine which type would be best for you.
I think a gerbil or hampster could be good for you, they're generally low-maintenance and easy to care for.
Whatever you're considering, be sure to carefully consider and research your options before deciding on something.
Good luck!

All animals are hard to deal with, life is hard...the sooner you understand that the better. If you are prepared to care for the animal:clean the cage, change the water, feed it, play with it, love it (for its lifetime, not just one summer) and you can commit to it then maybe consider a rat or a hamster but know that they are smelly. Why not be a cool girl and have a snake, very easy to care for but you gotta feed them mice. Or get a parakeet or cockatiel, Very messy.......

Good luck!

Chinchillas $130+
Ferrets $80+ (and smelly)
GUINEA PIGS $20+

And trust me, you do NOT want a bird. Please, trust me....
Don't listen to baby_girl unless you want your walls, carpet, and bed to be smothered in s* on a daily basis with all of your furniture posts chewed through

And if you do pick a guinea pig and want two, that's cool, but make sure that they come from the same tank at the same store on the same day. Otherwise, they'll probably kill eachother.

i have degus which are half chinchilla ans half gerbil so im going to speak for the chinichillas. they are not very hard to take care of, but you do need a class aquarium to keep them in because they chew through everything else. the only thing you need to worry about it making sure everything is "chew proof". if they are styaing in your room, they may be a little noisy at times, but i have gotten used to it! everything else is a breeze, and they love running on wheels! hope this answer helps!

Try a guinea pig, they are more cuddly than a hamster, but less work than most other animals. You just have to clean their cage twice a week. They are skittish at 1st but cuddly once they learn to trust you.
