I don't mean pride or mild patriotism(which is very healthy), I'm talking about the full-blown "America is the best, most free country ever" sort of talk you hear a lot of. It's something I've never seen in another country to such a great extent. All this, even in the face of the declining standard of living in the USA. Ironically this is the phenomenon that holds back the USA I think.

People realize that the United States of America isn't the only country with freedom of speech right? lol By declining quality of living I meant to signify the problems with many things: public education, health care(Americans are not very healthy) and other social ills (the USA has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the entire developed world).

I'm American living in China I live a pretty good life here and am treated well by the Chineses people. Don't get me wrong they are things I miss about the USA but it should isn't the taxes, or how I feel the government is making a mess out of the county lately. But living in the USA is a pretty easy life to a certain point.

I wish i knew the answer to that i like america but there are other countries in the world that are better in some ways like in Germany and Europe we have trains and buses all over but we still use vehicles there and tax is being used wisely by the government. Now in europe you can get married legally if your gay as opposed to america that they call a free country which I don't know how when there are so many laws restricting people. And in Germany not everyone owns a gun either only the "Jägermeister" or Forest Ranger. And the government will help you in paying the rent and electric and water bill i know my half sister gets it. I love Germany as I'm from there but like the usa too just that things could be changed to make it better. like more transportation for anyone. and better health care and other things that the other countries have.

Well i think your right im proud to be american and whatever just not uber proud because our president is an idiot and i think an embarrasment to our country and your right they're are flaws in our legals system and what not. don't know why people are so excited about our country when somethings still suck and were at war for no reason. yeah the trade center got attacked and people were killed i think that killing our soliders isn't going to help.

Why are these questions asked everyday!
If you dont think it is thats great and just leave it at that, but it seems like the entire rest of the world is always worried about what USA is doing. Its almost like, well maybe you folks need to worry more about your country and not ours...

Uh...Jason....the U.S. was not "the first republic." Rome was.

This answer, however, brilliantly highlights the reason that Americans think the U.S. is so great: ignorance of history, geography, and foreign cultures.

Although the U.S. has some laudable features as a country, it falls short in many ways. Americans are so brain-washed about the superiority of their system that they can't possibly conceive of any country doing things better.

No, Switzerland. Americans that think that this is the best country EVER is just afraid of what might happen if they really say what's on their mind. Kinda like men who constantly make fun of homos.

Because it is. Simple as that. Bu I'm biased. I think that if you choose to live in a country, you should believe that it's the best country in the world. Otherwise, you should move to the country you feel is the best in the world.

Partly because we are the first republic. Something to note is that public schools pretty much shove down your throat.
