democracy what is it, and why does it work?

in your own words what is demoracy, and why does it work and doesn't it?

Democracy is a political model where power ultimately resides in the people (the citizens).

It can exist in pure (polyarchal) form, where people make every decision directly, or in representative (democratic republic) form.

But at its essence, democracy is might-makes-right majority (mob) rule. Pure and simple.

Democracy works real well but you see we had it until Bush came in and took it all away from us, don't you remember in the Clinton years, how peaceful and happy everyone was, just think back. Bush's Daddy had it and we were so much and better off, but Iraq will never have a democracy, we will get ours back as soon as the 2008 election is over and Hillary and Bill Clinton bring it back to us.
