While 65-72F or so is a good range for them, goldfish are extremely flexible in the temperature of their tank and having a fairly stable temperature is more important than exactly what that temperature is. Better to keep them at 75F consistently than to have the temperature go up and down from 73F to 65F everyday.

Goldfish are very tolerant of a wide range of temperatures. They do best in a cooler tank, say between 68-72, but can survive at much warmer temperatures.

The key is really a stable temperature, rather than the "ideal" temperature.

It's better to keep them at a warmer temp, say 75, then to try and keep the tank cool and have the temperature fluctuating all over the place.

Between 68 and 72 is a nice range for them.

Some say around 74, slightly colder than a tropical tank. Goldfish are cold water fish, so they don't need a heater or anything.
