I called a place to get a price for a car detailing. He asked for the year and color.....why color? Do they do different things for different colors?

Sometimes it takes longer to make a dark colored car look good. So if it takes longer, it's probably more expensive.

different colors have different values and some are more likely to be stolen so they could be asking for legit reasons or shady reasons. Also if they use the stuff that makes scratches invisable they will need the color so they use the right stuff, you would not want to use black on a red car and end up with black strips.

because certain colors are harder to buff out than others are, especially black, and if they detail one right they usually will buff the paint out on it to make it look good,so this is why they asked the color of it,they just wanted to know, and yes they will charge a few bucks more for a dark colored car then a light colored one, good luck on it.

Light color cars may require different things than dark color ones, especially if they use a power buffer.

Darker colors may require more work to get them to look good. Black comes to mind.
