That really depends on the type of fish involved. Some you can easily tell apart, some you can't tell apart at all. While only livebearing fishes technically get pregnant, females of other species carry eggs. If you want to add a particular kind of fish or two, we can tell you how to tell them apart if there is a way.

Some fish like, guppies, you can see the babies inside if you look at a certain spot. Other fish just get fat. Females are generally a duller color than the males.

well some fish you can tell by the color like birds if its lighter or more dull color probably a girl

Girl: the fish has a pink head
Boy: the fish has a blue head
