I lived in Mexico for 10 years and returned to the US in '92, but still know people down there. We, too, are thinking of retiring to Mexico, but not back to San Miguel de Allende, which is quite expensive these days.

The State of Morelos, which includes Cuernavaca, is very desirable, pretty, well located for travel, etc. and I can't think of any reason not to move there. As far as real estate, purchase or rental, Morelos won't be as inexpensive as many other states.

I'm adding some real estate links below so you can sample housing. The ones in Spanish have a language converter (I think). They're all for Morelos.

I have sites for many other parts of Mexico and some Central American countries, all of which have become incredibly popular with Americans.

Feel free to send me a email if you wnat some links for other real estate markets south of the border.

Buena suerte.
