What do you think about the House adding the amendment to a bill that will block federal funding for the incarceration of our two border control agents Ramos and Copean? This would mean they would have to be released because there would be no financial appropriation to continue them being in jail.

Approximately 100 members of congress have written the president regarding pardon or commutation and he (Bush) has said he would have to wait until the appeal process was over. However, he didn't feel that way about Scooter Libby when he commuted his sentence before his appeal. And, by the way, since Mr. Libby did not do any jail time, he had no sentence to commute, which really means he was pardoned.

I think the House was quite ingenious in coming up with this solution which passed by a landslide. What do you think?

It think it's an abuse of Congressional authority and while it may be legal, it's foolish.

It means that any time Congress doesn't like a verdict of the courts, they can threaten to show down all criminal prosecution until the Courts do what Congress demands.

I guess they are taking a lesson from Bush -- if all the other balance of powers and constitutional integrity is being thrown out, we might as well throw out the courts as well.

So much for the rule of law.....

That's hilarious in a very strange way. I wasn't even aware of the situation until I saw you question, but after I read it, I did a little research.

So much for three separate, but equal checks and balances!

Part of Libby's sentence included a fine, which was not commuted, so no, it didn't equate to a pardon.
