You have to get the shot when you get your period....within the first couple of days. Just a warning....make sure you take calcium pills because it destroys your bone tissue and you will gain weight with the shot. I gained about 20 lbs over a 2 yr period and I have been having a real hard time getting the weight off. My doctor put me on seasonal birth control pills. You get your period once every 3 months and it lasts for 3 to 4 days. You get less cramping and blotting. I have been on that for about 6 months now and I love it! I say go for the pills. If if thats your having a hard time remembering to take it.....I take mine in the morning before I brush my teeth....i keep em in the medicine chest. Well good luck and let me know what you decide!

When I went on it back in the 1990s, you could get it any time during your cycle. I was on the pill at the time and just switched. You might want to ask your gynecologist.

But I have to say I have issues with Depo, as I gained A LOT of weight, and I got blinding, skullcrusher headaches.
