University at Buffalo or Stony Brook? Both are part of the the SUNY system and both have a medical school. Also, does it matter if you go to public or private school when applying for medical school?

Going to a good school will help you get into medical school -- but it isn't the most important factor. There are great public universities (e.g., Berkeley, UNC, U of Michigan, etc) and there are bad private universities (e.g., St John's, Seton Hall, Liberty). So the public vs private thing doesn't matter.

Both schools that you mention are comparable. Binghampton is probably the best of the SUNY schools -- but these two are close behind.

On the other hand, New York has a good -- but not great public university system. You might be better off going to a state school in a different state.

I don't know that it matters so much about the school other than it should be a good school with the proper accredidation. The public or private usually only matters to the person who is attending. Private means more money, but smaller atmosphere and possibly more attention is all. There are many good medical schools around. In fact, I am proud to live in a city where there are two great medical schools - Vanderbilt and Meharry.
