me and my husband went to the dollar general to get a pregnancy test. as soon as we got home i took it. that was probably about 7:00 pm. well the first "window" where it tells you plus or negative, there was a +, but the line going up and down was faint..but then a little while later it was dark. all my tests have been negative up until now. do these dollar general tests really work? like are they as good as the ept's?

Yeah they work but after a certain amount of time the results are invalid. It happened to me. It came back negative and we looked at it ten minuets later and it said positve. After 5 minutes or so you have to disregard the findings it should say that on the box.

Yes, these tests are just as reliable.
Your HCG levels (the hormone produced when you are pregnant) rise constantly, so when you took the prior tests it may not have been high enough to have been detected.
Also, each brand (and even different tests among the same brand) have different sensitivity levels so the other tests you used may not have been as sensitive. The more expensive ones are not always better, and in fact some of the most sensitive are the test strips you can get online.
False positives are VERY rare, False Negatives are quite common. Even if the result is faint, if the test line shows up then you are pregnant. Congratulations!
I have taken HUNDREDS of tests (literally), with probably every brand out there and I have never had a false positive!

I used the dollar store tests with all 3 of my pregnancies. With my first, I went out and bought a more expensive test afterwards, because I wasn't sure I could trust the first one. But lo and behold, the more expensive one had the same result. After the first time, I trusted them, and they were right each time! I actually kept all my tests from each pregnancy... with the dollar store brand, the lines stay bright, even years later! A faint line is still a line. If there is any doubt in your mind, retest in 2 days. Good luck!!!

Usually with ALL pregnancy tests there aren't ever any false positives. Only false negatives. I don't blame you for asking though. The first test I took that came out positive just HAD to be wrong so I took about 7 others that night :) Here I am with a big ol belly 5 months later lol

They may not work as well, but there is something you have to remember with any and all pregnancy tests: There is no such thing as a false positive. If it's negative, it could be wrong, but positive means it has found the pregnancy hormone, and there is no way it's wrong.
Most health departments do free pregnancy testing, and if you have insurance, it should pay for you to have your doctor perform a pregnancy test. Either way, if you have recieved a positive reading, it's time to go see the doctor to confirm it and to set up your first oppointment with an OBGYN.
Goodluck!

All pregnancy tests are basically the same. It doesn't matter what you pay for it. If you got a positive, even a faint one, ten you are pregnant. I had to take like four to convince myself that I was really pregnant, so take the ept in the morning and I feel congrats are in order.

it is really easy to come up with a false negative on home tests, its harder to get a false negative, when i was pregnant with my daughter EVERY home test I took came up negative even after i went to the doctor (just to see what id get) came up negative. Chances are you ARE pregnant and the others were just giving false negatives. The dollar general tests arent really much better or worse than the EPT's in my own opinion.

THEY WORK!
and are very accurate!!! My cousin took one a few years ago and I took two a few months ago! The only thing to really consider is that with time a line may begin to appear, with ANY pregnancy test!
I found this out with my first pregnancy test (name brand). I took it and didn't want my friends to know I took it so I left it upstairs until we watched some movies and they left. After I read it and it said that it does not matter how faint the line was, if it appears YOU ARE PREGNANT. Then under FAQ's it said that if u don't check it within 15 minutes (I believe) A LINE MAY BEGIN TO APPEAR!!!
Talk about confusing!
Good luck

Congratulations! You're pregnant. It is very unlikely to get a false positive. A pregnancy test is a pregnancy test! The only reason why some are more expensive than others is because some are just more sensitive at detecting HCG earlier than others! I suggest making an appointment at your nearest planned parenthood or with your doctor to confirm your pregnancy! Congrats and good luck!

Actually the dollar store ones tend to be more sensitive than EPTs.... but EPT has a huge ad budget to make you think otherwise.
While I don't see dollar general on this list if you will not New Choice the Dollar Tree test is 25 mIU/mL according to specs EPT tests are only 50 mIU/mL
