I've never owned a reptile but I had a roommate with 2 ball pythons and a friend with 2 corn snakes. One of the pythons liked to be handled and the other one kind of liked it. The older corn snake was also pretty friendly and the baby one was squirmy but OK with it. I also had a friend with an iguana and it was pretty testy and didn't like to be handled. I think it depends on the temperment of the animal. I don't think your question is worded very well: people don't have very many rights at all. I think we're allowed to try and get our pets to be social but at a certain point we need to acknowledge that some pets are picky and don't like to be handled.

That is what I love about reptiles: They can deal with occasional handling. Sometimes I spend more time with mine, but I always enjoy the fact that they aren't oppressing like a dog or cat could be. If you don't feel like petting them, they can deal with it just fine.

Since I house them and feed them it is my right to handle them if I feel like it. Additionally, I love my reptiles.

We have a turtle that loves to come to get food from our hands but unless I'm doing a health check he's happier swimming. if i had a snack then I most likely would hold it ( I always wanted a ball python but my husband said no until our kids our older because with our luck they'ed get eaten!)

I have a box turtle and handle him as he likes it. I rub his head a neck and he stretches it out for more. He's thirty years old. He will even walk toward me or look at me when I call his name.

I'm in the second camp, no recreational handling, just what's necessary.
