We spend alot of time out in the fields in the summer and them deerflies WILL drive you insane. Started using Avon skin so soft bath oil. Some mix water with it to dilute it. We use it straight. Not very masciline, but it works. I think it's six to seven dollars for a good sized bottle. Works real good for the flies that tear a dogs ear up as well.

The only remedies I have ever known for these nasties are winter weather and moving to another region. If they're only around at certain times (like those green heads in Newburyport - YIKES) just waiting a few weeks might do the trick.

There's not much you can do for them, the weather, Hot, brings them out. Once they go through their cycle they'll be through, usually about ten days.

"Deet" does keep them at bay, I use it outside.
