I always wanted to go to Yale,Princeton or Stanford.

But I also know that the acceptance rates are horrifyingly low, like 12 percent.

What can you do to help get accepted.

And what is an example of someone they would want.

Example:
GPA
SAT score
What kind of extra curricular, and do you have to be like the president of it or can you just be a historian or something?

Well, I have gotten into one and am going, and yes, acceptance rates are astonishing low.

The best thing that you can do to get accepted (scores and schooling is obvious) is to be yourself! Write an essays that actually show who you are instead of following a guideline that you find online because 100,000 other people will be looking at that same guide!

I can't give you a great example of what they want, but I can tell you some things I had:
3.8 GPA
1390 SAT (760 math)
30 ACT
Boy Scouts (including being staff at campouts for the little guys)
National Honor Society (Vice-President)
Tennis and Golf my younger years of HS
Band (Drum Major 2 years, All-Area Oboe, Sax in jazz band)
Part of an orchestra that toured China over a summer
Save the Environment Club
Winner of a National Community Service Project with $16,000 grant and restoration of city park.

hm... well, it looks good on paper. Just get community service, leadership, academics, be well rounded, and enjoy what you do.
Honestly? I'm just a regular person that struck some luck.

And everyone says that the price is ridiculous and you have to sell your soul! It isn't true at all! I got over a half a million dollars in scholarship money! I can get my doctorate from the Ivy League and never take out a loan or pay a penny!

Just apply, you have absolutely nothing to lose.
and if you're COMPLETELY positive, you can try Early Decision if you apply to a school that is keeping it because the acceptance rate goes up a bit, plus, then you could be wait-listed and have your application reviewed again if you didn't get in on the first go.

Hope I helped!

Look at this website: http://www.campusgrotto.com/how-to-get-into-an-ivy-league-school.html

Basically the site says that you need to have a GPA close to a 4.0 (about 3.7 or higher), an SAT of 1300 or better, a really well written essay, and leadership experience.

I also found the SAT scores of the colleges you listed, based on a survey of current students.

Princeton: 1472
Yale: 1450
Stanford: 1470

This is all I could find, I hope it helps.
Good Luck!

Princeton Review has admission statistics for most universities.

In order to get into an Ivy league school (or one of the equivalents -- like Stanford, Duke, Chicago or Northwestern) you need:

Graduate in the top 10% of your HS class
Take lots of AP classes
Do lots of extracurriculars
Score 2200/2400 on your SATs
Write a killer essay
Get good recommendations from people who know you (as opposed to people who are famous).

Even with these stats, you may not get in -- but you would certainly get in somewhere good.

Well, one of my colleagues' son had a perfect SAT score - 2400, and still didn't get into Stanford. I don't know exactly what his GPA was, but it was very good. It is hard to predict what will appeal to these schools. I think most of us want to see someone who takes initiative and does more than just follow the rules. You don't have to be President of everything, but if you start something unique, or institute a new organization rather than running an existing one, it may be looked upon more strongly. They also want to see someone who challenges themselves, so if you took tougher classes and did slightly less well, that would be better than taking the easy road to getting straight A's.

You need to have a 4.0GPA or higher at the high school level. I know that you have to have a high SAT score. I'm more familiar with the ACT(S) that are given on the East Coast which I'm sure has to be in the 3400 and up range. Also you need to hold leadership roles in the clubs you are involved in. Helping a charity is a good way to get noticed because you are doing this outside of school on your own time. During the summer volunteer at your favorite charity in your community. If they see you have interests outside the programs offered at school you'll look more responsible to those examining applications. Also learn to write and express yourself well which means take any extra writing courses offered through your school or local college. All of this shows the colleges that you are a responsible person and that you are worthy of the education they are fit to bestow to potential students.

Let's see... Be the Valedictorian of your Class; as well as Class President. Be in the top 5% of your School when you Graduate... Come from a family that can AFFORD to go bankrupt to send you to one... And be in "good" with a few of your High School teachers- who can write up "glowing recommendations" about why YOU could be the NEXT President of the United States. THAT should about do it! :)
