I have an aunt and uncle who waited FOUR YEARS to adopt a child. They had no race or gender preference. They just wanted a baby. And almost a quarter of all pregnancies end in abortion in this great nation, so yeah, FOUR YEARS on a waiting list.
I have cousins who paid through the nose to adopt a one year old girl from the Philippines because of the long wait here.
My mother and father in law adopted two teenage girls who were victims of abuse, neglect, and even attempted murder. Had the girls been put up for adoption as infants, that never would've happened, but ask them if they'd rather be dead than have endured what they did. They are beautiful, well adjusted girls, and I can tell you how THEY feel about abortion: They're glad they're alive.
My neighbors have several foster children, including one boy who suffers from what is in all likelihood fetal alcohol syndrome, and he spent eighteen months in a crib. Yes, abortion would've saved him the abuse, neglect, and impairment. It also would've deprived the world of a beautiful, adorable, valuable little boy who is dearly loved now.
There are NO unwanted babies. Somebody wants them. There aren't enough babies to fill the arms of all the people who want them. And that's a fact. Thumbs down all you want, pro-"choicers." You can't deny the verifiable, undisputed FACTS. Denial only costs more innocent lives and deprives many of the joy of parenthood. And I challenge Coragryph and everyone else here who's blathering on about "unwanted babies" to back that statement up. I have firsthand knowledge and statistics to back up what I've said. Anyone?
P.S. Parker, you ARE an idiot. I am 22 weeks pregnant. I still have two weeks to walk into my local abortion clinic and have my son ripped limb from limb and sucked from my womb, no questions asked. My son squirms when he thinks the waistband of my jeans is cramping his space. He jumps at loud noises. He sucked his fingers, rubbed his eyes, and kicked at the transducer during my ultrasound over two weeks ago. He is, inarguably, unquestionably, a sentient being. Every medical professional in the world will tell you this (unless they're an abortion provider). If born now, he might even survive. And yet, I have the supposed "right" to kill him. GET AN EDUCATION!! GET A CLUE!!!
Crabbyblindguy: I respect your viewpoint. But my point of view has nothing to do with my religious convictions. It has to do with the fact that I have observed my children in the womb and I know they were (and are) alive. Science and medicine all bear this out, and with the ever-increasing technology to observe children in the womb, there is no longer an excuse to claim that unborn children are "insentient" or "nonhuman" or "blobs" or any of the other lies the "choicers" have fed their clientele over the years.
Rachlg79: You're talking about children, mostly adolescents and teenagers, in the foster care system, many with behavior problems as a result of their abuse and neglect, not "unwanted" infants. My aunt and uncle, whom I mentioned above, a couple of the whitest people you've ever met, living in an overwhelmingly white, rural community, adopted two black little boys. AND WAITED FOUR YEARS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO IT. You've totally misrepresented the facts. But then, that's the game, isn't it.
Just because there aren't enough people like my in-laws and neighbors willing to pick up the slack for parents who were too lazy or abusive to rear their own young and too selfish or naive to give them up at birth to someone who WOULD, doesn't mean we should pre-emptively murder potential abuse victims and DHS cases. How ignorant.

I agree, that particular argument is flawed in more ways than one. Personally, I am pro-choice. I would never encourage someone to have an abortion. That is just MY belief, and I am certain that it is YOUR belief that influences you to make abortion illegal.
What if it isn't the belief of everyone? There are some who believe governments shouldn't be chosen by their people. Does that make democracy wrong? What isn't right for you may be right for someone else and vice versa. I don't think it is the place of government to make these kinds of decisions.
I would strongly support more attention and resources to go toward discouraging people from having an abortion and more availability to contraceptives (condoms and various other forms of birth control).
Furthermore, I certainly think there should be a ban on late-term abortions, except when the health of the mother is in danger. If you know you don't want a baby, you should know relatively soon after you find out you're pregnant, not 6 months after.

It's crazy, I know. There are frickin' lines at orphanages. We should all send letters to the peoples mother's and ask then if when they got pregnant it was the "right time?"
Anyway, the reason they use that answer is because the people who don't think about it or are pro abortion instantly can say "oh they care about what happens to the children."
Yeah, right.
P.S.
Ugh! After reading the above statements, i am really pissed. DO THEY THINK ALL TEENAGERS SLEEP AROUND!!!!!!!! Can I remind them that our generation has one of the lowest teenage birthrates! Much lower than theirs I'm sure.
P.P.S.
After reading the even further above about homosexuals adopting, (I have nothing against homosexuals, go ahead i don't care if you get married) But adoption? Imagine how the kid would feel if daddy 1 and daddy 2 took him to the park every wednesday? and the family exercises in Kidnergarten? Ugh.
PPPS
Sorry I'm taking up so much space but OH MY GOD parker you are a complete JERK!! Have you ever been near a pregnant woman??
Fetuses can hear and they react to their mothers voices and some even have music preferences!! Haven't you heard of all those famous people who had music played to their mother's wombs?
P.P.P.P.S
T-222 whatever it is,
Wow, you say there are too many people in this world? Fine. Let's get rid of you first and make some room for all the wonderful people who will be glad they're alive. Jerk.
And I really don't think men should have any say in this because if you don't want kids,
then try to contain yourself. Yeah, I said it.

Not all people who are pro-choice use that arguement. And if you don't agree--fine--but that doesn't jsutify making derogatory statements and applying themto anyone who dares to differ with your beliefs. Many people believe abortion is wrong--including me. But I don't stereotype everyone who disagrees as "pro-abortion" or atteck their views or intelligence. That is simply bigotry.
And most people in the US do not agree that abortion should be illegal for the same reason I do not. As strong as my beliefs are--the are based on RELIGIOUS conviction. And neither I-nor you--or anyone else--has the right to impose their religious beliefs on others. That is absolutely against the teachings of Christ and against both the values and the Constitution of the United States.

The same people who are anti abortion are also anti-family planning. When my younger sister had sex ed in school all they did was show a porno movie and didn't have any discussion or feedback, now how do you expect responsible decisions with such morally imbecile and intelligence insulting methods?
I'm not necessarily pro abortion but I believe in cases of rape, incest, under-age parent and mother's life being in danger it is justified.
Part of the solution is honest and direct information on family planning and let's stop acting like we are born yesterday, In Europe they do this, and as liberal as they are, their birthrate especially among young girls is very low as well as their rate of abortion, they don't believe in keeping anything from their youngsters.

ok, let's take two things into consideration 1. the concept that many people use abortions as a form of birth control is not necessarily true, considering the cost and difficulty involved 2. not all "pro abortionists" consider a zygote or a 2-3 month old fetus a "child." 3. many of the people who give up babies are unable to financially support themselves, much less take three weeks off of work for a progressing pregnancy and then foot the thousands of dollars in hospital bills.

Then why aren't the pro-choice movement behind the Morning-after pill? WHY does it continue to be rejected for sale in the US? Because doctors would lose MONEY! Abortions ain't cheap. It's sold in other countries, is it effective? I don't know. But the FDA refuses to certify it here. Gee, wonder why....

Adoption is a complicated legal process. It's not just as simple as dumping your kids off at the adoption center and driving off.
Furthermore, there aren't that many people willing to adopt for financial reasons as well as the prejudices that this society has against adoption. Many so-called guardians of the family promote the ideas that forming a family through biological birth is superior to adoption and that keeping a child with his/her biological parents is inherently better than placing a child for adoption.
So if pro-lifers continue to insist that ADOPTION is the cure-all for unwanted children, why not try to make adoption laws less complicated?

Because our society tells us that we should only have children if it's "convenient." If someone doesn't want to raise a child - they sure don't want to spend 9 months with it living inside them, changing their body. However, that sucks. It is a child - and if you are having sex - then you should have a plan for a possible pregnancy that doesn't include "terminating" it.
As far as not knowing anyone who has had one - you would be surprised. Many people have them, and are so ashamed that they won't tell anyone.

you seem nice. the truth is abortion is wrong in most situations because it is a quick fix for horrible ignorance and IRRESPONSIBILITY. Saying that, the bigger truth is that so many kids grow up unloved, many(hundreds) sleep in offices of social workers, are abused etc and become burdens on society. there is no simple answers; instead of asking biased questions, i beg you to volunteer getting youth entering adulthood (whom can't even balance a checkbook) get ready for life. God bless you.
