If someone wanted to cast a spell on a young lady and said that young lady names is Jill when her real name is Mary seems to defeat the whole purpose of that spell so yes truth seems to be a very much a important part of any spell or prayer.. Also lying to God is not a smart way to get your prayers answered.......................................................................................

The most important ingredient is intent. That's how results/consequences are often determined. Intent is the power behind the prayer or spell.

I think it depends on what you mean by 'truth' in this question. (And no, this is not stupid semantics:) )
Is the asker being truthful in all statements and parts of the request? (In other words, is it factually correct?) Will the Holy Ones be able to discern lies? (I hope so.) Will they honor them? (Possibly. Is this transactional? Do they only care that the asker meets their supposed conditions (ie, sacrifice, incense, bringing of gifts, being a nice person, etc)
Is the asker being true to his self in making the request? Has she deluded herself in requesting something she thinks she wants but doesn't actually? Will the Universe and its Powers honor a request that is delusional? (Apparently so, if the folk saying "be careful what you wish for" has any merit.)
I think the most important component of any request to Powers is true feeling. Emotional power and concentration seems to be the key to me. Do you want it truly with all your heart to the best of your ability to determine? Have you focused on that clearly? Can you put all your will and feeling and body behind it? I think this is what gets results, whether the Powers are hearing you or you're only speaking to your own deep self.

Faith is the absolutely most important ingredient; then maybe "intent" or 'focus." Truth, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't think it's possible to cast a spell or pray without being true to yourself. How can you put forth intent if you don't truly know what you want? I figure that truth is taken for granted when one commits himself to such things.

No. It's faith. No prayer or spell will work without faith. Whether it is true or not is debatable.

Psalms "God is close to all who call to him, to all that call to him WITH TRUTH".
