There are always wars going on in Africa.

It isn't news.

News is about the strange, the weird, the unusual.

That's why you see priests, military, politicians, and police officers in the news who commit crimes.

Those things don't happen often (especially compared to the general public).

When war is rare in Africa, it will be all over the news when they happen.

That's also why you hear no good news out of Iraq, and why Fox news truly isn't news in many ways. They try to present both sides. That's not news. They present things that aren't that rare but are positive (not news).

Funny how many people confuse news with reality.

I don't believe the Media is trying to hide anything. They are just not that interested in poverty stricken countries with little oil. The Genocide going on in Africa, is under reported and over looked. Same with the Aids Crisis there. Maybe this country will elect a President who will help the suffering people and care enough to speak about the tragedy that is Africa.

What would be the reason for hiding it?

There is a huge problem with access to information and access physically to those countries. You can't get foreign journalists into a lot of them, and you can't get information out. And U.S. media companies are ailing and laying off news-gathering staff. One of the first places they cut is foreign reporters, so there just aren't as many journalists out there.

See, you can't really bring up the issue of mass graves because as we've all learned in the last couple of years, mass graves aren't important. Only WMD.
