I went to see "Hairspray" and I thought it was the best movie I have ever seen. So i was searching the critics reveiws on imdb.com and then i go to the user comment stuff. I click on the "goofs". It says that when Tracy was catching a ride to school on a loading truck singing "Good Morning Baltimore", They say the truck was made in the late 1970's and this movie took place in the 1960's. I mean really SOO WHAT!!! That annoys me so much that they real have to dig down soooo deep to ruin an awesome movie. Is it just me or does this annoy you too??

These things do not matter. An old truck is an old truck and as long as it does not detract from the period feel it is OK.

However, if they had been using a mobile phone or lap top computer, it would have mattered.

By the way, this is a question of set design or property design, not continuity. Continuity is making sure that actors are wearing the same clothes in different takes of the same scene, or that there is not more drink in a glass late in a scene than early. Continuity used to be the biggest users of Polaroid cameras in the industry, and now extensively use digital cameras. They also are very adept at cutting cigarettes into various lengths.

That does seem like they were losing sight of the big picture. It probably happened when someone who is a truck expert saw the film and noticed the difference then alerted a reviewer, I guess its an interesting historical observation but it doesn't change the fact that it was a real good film. There is a whole specialty in movie making, I think its called Continuity (but I am not sure about that) where they make sure that everything is historically accurate and that all the scenes segue smoothly and accurately. As long as you enjoyed the film thats great!

Yup, it's terribly annoying! The fact of the matter is that movies are all about the usage of creative anachronisms. If we had to get everything on a movie set be actually from that era, movies would cost a small fortune!
(p.s. I saw Hairspray (2007) today, loved it, and also went to iMDB! What a coincidence!)

Most folks won't even notice, but the studios spend LOTS of money to make sure things like that don't happen.
It's called continuity.
Somebody got in trouble because they didn't do their job.
