The CIA and FBI stopped over 600 terrorist attacks in the past 40 years. They really screwed up on 9/11, but I don't think they'll allow it to happen again.
But theoretically, if it did happen again, I don't think it would unite us. Though Bin Laden stated his reasons for 9/11 before and after the event, it took several years for many Americans to find out why, and most people here still don't know. During the '90 Gulf War, we built 8 military bases in Saudi Arabia. Bin Laden warned us to close them, but the 1st President Bush didn't listen. After 9/11, Bush finally closed those bases.
U.S. militarism in the Mideast=terrorist acts against us. It's just that simple. Bush is causing terrorism by being an imperialist.

i think for most of the people in this country, an attack on american soil would indeed be a wake up call. that said however, there are those that would ratchet up the blame game, and continue finger pointing.

A terrorist attack of such a scale will only happen if a bill that would take away some of our rights isn't supported.

9/11 did bring this country together. It is the unrelated war of aggression in Iraq that is the main cause of driving it apart (although why reckless fiscal and environmental policies are not contributing further is beyond me).

The last part of your question struck me. Why is your prayer limited to protecting American soil? Seems to me that if people are going yo pray that no attacks happen again, that prayer should include the entire world.

I think such an event would probably tend to unite us, but people will forever remember that Mr. Bush used the 9-11 tragedy as a bogus excuse to attack Iraq in order to steal their (THEIR!) oil. So people might be suspiscious that our side staged this hypothetical attack, or let it happen--some people even believe that about 9-11, and there does seem to be strong evidence that the gvt. knew something was going to happen.

exacerbate this -partisan- BS
I think thats what you mean
And yes, you would be absolutely right.
Cons would say the libs are too weak on security
Libs would say Bush made them hate us
What side are you on? Pfffttt, garbage.

Unlike the temporary dropping of purely partisan politics from the democrat leadership, I wouldn't expect that to happen the next time. They would savage Bush and blame him like the nut cases who think he planned the attack on 9/11.
