I have a 22in monitor and a 15 in. Ideally i'd like to run the 22in at 1680x1050 and the 15in at 1024x768. I want to be able to Photoshop, Flash etc. on the larger while having iTunes, Trillian, etc. on the smaller. Is there anything i can do to use these different size monitors at different resolutions at the same time?

The details i put above are the monitors max resolutions. Also I don't know how to initiate the dual monitor mode without being stuck with a 2048x768 resolution

The problem is now when i go to display properties, settings, it shows only one monitor and says "Display: Plug and Play monitor on NVIDEA Geforce 8800 GTX" even though i have both monitors hooked up to the graphics card, it doesn't show both.

You need a graphics card that will support two monitors, with two outputs. These are pretty common these days if you do not have one already.

Connect both monitors, install the drivers if you got a new video card.

Control panel > Display Properties > Settings Tab.

You should have a picture of your two screens. If one is grayed out, then click on that image and then click on the tick box "Extend my windows desktop . . . ."

Click Apply and both monitors will light up. You can now set the resolution for each independently. If the positions in the window do not match the physical positions of the monitors drag and drop the images in the window so that they do match.

Click Apply after each change to see the effect. When you are happy click OK.
