Accepting that there is no life in this solar system outside of Earth, how could beings from even the closest possible life-supporting star system get here? Breaking the 'light barrier', or an extremely long flight time, or what?
The only bad answers are ones that don't answer the question.

You can't just shout "Wormholes!" and leave it at that!! Is there any proof at all that wormholes exist? Also, there's still big problems if there's no wormholes near their destination, ie Earth. And I just looked out of the window and there's no wormholes round here!

If they were truly so super-sneaky as to be secretly living right next door all this time without us noticing, then why would they suddenly be not-so-super-sneaky when they get to Earth and let lots of people (allegedly) see them and their craft?

Mathematically there is such a thing as hyperspace, which we may develop into a way to travel to the stars and bypass Einsteinian limits. Aliens could be that far ahead of us.
Personally I favour the idea of huge ships taking generations to reach their destinations or perhaps just roaming through the galaxy exploring, making some contacts, and moving on in an attempt to find the perfect planet to colonise. I would think that an advanced alien race would also be ethical enough not to colonise Earth, yet not so ethical that they might not experiment to see if they could adapt to our planet. The abductions by the Gray people and the UFOs could be aimed at making their race more adaptable to Earth or another similar planet they have already discovered that they want to settle on.
There have been sci-fi stories where humans spent generations on a ship to get to a planet that probes had reported as habitable. There are people who would do just that to ensure their descendants of a free and open world, to ensure that humanity would continue even if Earth was destroyed by war, population or pollution.

They dont actually have to come from the out of this solar system.
Our solar system is old, middle aged in fact and they could be the remaining population of earlier civilisations that developed before us on earth, Mars before it became desolate and what once could have been a planet that is the asteroid field between mars and Jupiter.
They would obviously want to keep a low profile from homo sapien at the minute as we are large in numbers and still very dangerous

I discussed this at length with a guy in Roswell at the UFO Research center. Most accounts told to him always seemed to involve the ufo being sited and then darting away so fast that it appeared to just go into another dimension. No disappearing, fading lights; just wham and it was gone. I like this explanation the best because, also, why do not more airplanes see them flying all around if they exist and not very often are they seen on radar. Definitely our astronauts would see them more often, too. If they exist, their technology has to be much more advanced to travel long distances or developed the 'stealth' much sooner than we did. Have you experienced any sightings?

Well, I was really trying to go to Mars, bought a ticket and everything but the pilot couldn't land on mars (something abt the runway not being finished) so he decided on a big corn field in KY. It was great because there were a bunch of guys in the back of a truck drinking this stuff called "moonshine" and they gave us some. We felt so welcome we just decided to stay. Now I work at a bank - head teller!! - and my kids are in AG classes at school. My husband got a job with the DOT, and that is right up his alley. I like humans, they make a feel comfortable here.

If they traveled faster than light our perception would consist of nothing but black nothingness because they would be GOING FASTER THAN LIGHT The only way to travel faster than light and be able to see what was going on would be if there were different light rays that are faster than light. since they would have to wait for the light to get there to see anything they would die well before then.
The only explanation that would solve this problem is they learned how to manipulate worm holes.
What else would you expect...yo mama brought em here?
p.s. real UFO sightings all seem to happen around water. The very first sighting, the one that coined the phrase "flying saucer" said quote, "It looks like a flying saucer, skimming on the water."

maybe they really didn't have to travel that far at all. They could just live on the moon, mars or venus and just be super sneaky. How confident are we that our technology can detect alien life-forms on our neighboring planets? Maybe life abroad looks very different then we have ever imagined it.

Not being of alien extraction I have no idea. Maybe they got here the same way we did! After all, the missing link has yet to be found or at least evidence of us being on this planet prior to Cro Magna man (apologies for spelling).

The NEAREST star (Alpha Centauri) is 4 light years away. It would have to be some kind of warp or vortex. Highly unlikely.

What kind of aliens are you referring to ? I, myself, am an alien. When I fly to the United States from France, I have to put "alien" on my papers as I am a French National, that is a non-american.
I am proud to be an alian that way.

Nobody can actually answer that! Just like YOU can't answer what the blips on radar are, or the sightings, or the abduction stories, or the videos. It's okay to come to the realization that there's much we don't know, but it seems reasonable to be open-minded about all the evidence.
