I understand that Latinos (or anyone) living in Third World conditions would want to leave that place and move to a land where they have an opportunity. If I was sitting in Haiti with no hope for the future, I might jump on a raft and take my chances as well.

However, for the sake of the country, immigration needs to be controlled. I'd like to help every person in the world escape poverty and oppression, but as powerful as the US may be, it can't absorb all of the world's problems.

It's not about Latinos per say, it's about masses of people coming in at once and overwhelming our infrastructure. I am for legal immigration of any peoples. The United States is a sovereign nation and with that has the right to legislate how many or how few newcomers enter this country legally.

There are countries out there that have a zero immigration policy because there populations are so large.

In South Korea's quest to stay homogeneous, despite having dangerous jobs many of the locals don't want to do, South Korea has some of the strictest immigration laws in the world. You can temporarily work there in low level jobs but FORGET about earning permanent Korean citizenship.

I am for legal immigration, because they can make a better life for themselves. Illegals get taken advantage of by companies that will hire them for low cost and now benefits, forcing them into the lower class and keeping them down.

No problem with legal immigration. It is the illegals who put a strain on our nation, and also granting illegal immigrants, Latino or other nationalities, insult our immigration system. It is unfair to those who are waiting to come here legally.

My family immigrated here _legally_ from Canada, eh. It took five years and tons of paperwork. It is _wrong_ for people to be able to flop across the (usually Mexican) border and get the same thing.

I feel so sad that the American public has been duped into blaming the immigrants themselves when the US pushed through NAFTA, thrusting millions of already lacking Mexicans into abject poverty. NAFTA is the reason all these people are trying to come here. They have no choice. The rich of their own nation have forsaken them yet again and we blame the victims. NAFTA forces countries to export their resources, sell their infrastructure to private concerns and cut what little social spending there was to begin with. Bravo America.

being legal is perfectly fine. if you have worked to pass you're citzenship test, that's fabulous! green cards, great. at least you have permission to be in the country.

but, illegal...i'm definitley not alright with it. i mean, really....what's the point? you dont get any rights...you're putting you're life in danger of comming to america...and tons of people will not welcome you and you wont get a decent job. if you dont have a decent job, then you're broke, done deal. i say, if you have a relative or anyone willing to get you over here, then do it. just dont do it illegally.

Personally, I find it sad that we let all sorts of people in from South and Central America regardless of what they may be able to contribute to the country, yet I have highly intelligent and well educated friends from Europe who can't get a visa to save their lives.

But I guess all the rich people need dirt cheap labor. That's why they have eighty million plus dollars (and just what do you do with all that? Snort crack with a gold pipe?)

Plus Wal-mart and McDonalds would go bankrupt.
