i can't seem to find what's wrong with these sentences because i don't know all the rules. my teacher said my errors were that i only answer based on how it sounds according to my ears, instead of answering based on the rules.

When the hometown crowd realized that its team was about to lose the game, they started to leave the stadium. (the problem is "they" but what should replace that word then...."it"?)

Neither Lyn nor Kate has finished their ceramics project in time for Professor Gedney's exhibition today. ("their" is the problem. should that word be replaced by "them"?)

Because Doug has decided that he needs to supplement his income this year, he raised wheat. (problem is "raised" so should it be "raises"? it sounds incorrect, & maybe thats my flaw when it comes to english. i base on how it sounds)

1. Since you have "it" in reference to the crowd, then it should leave the stadium.
2. Replace "their" with "her" since neither girl finished. To use their, the sentence would read "Since none of the girls finished their ceramics projects..."
3. Changed "raised" to "is raising", and take out "has" and "that" at the beginning ("Because Doug decided he needs...he is raising wheat.")

Don't worry--a lot of people base writing on how things sound.
I usually have to change things 2 or 3 times before I get it right.

THEY should be replaced with IT...see where it says crowd realized that ITS team was about to lose? IT refers to crowd. So when the crowd started to leave the stadium, IT started, not THEY started.

No, THEIR should be replaced by HER. Lyn has not finished HER project, nor has Kate finished HER project. Neither is singular (see how it says neither HAS, not neither HAVE), so you need to use HER, not THEIR.

No, if Doug HAS decided, then he HAS raised wheat. Keep the verbs alike.
