You CAN eat yogurt to help prevent and treat yeast infections. There is a balance of good and bad bacteria in your body and for some reason sometimes that balance gets messed up by some reason or another causing the bad bacteria to overgrow and then you experience the symptoms of a yeast infection. By eating the yogurt you are eating the good bacteria as long as the yogurt has live cultures in it, it will say so on the outside of the container. This will help balance things out again and prevent the overgrowth of yeast its just a matter of maintaining the balance.

Natren has two products that may help you.

Gy-Na-Tren: an oral probiotic developed specifically for those that suffer from yeast infections. It contains lactobacillus acidophilus and boric acid.

Healthy Trinity: another oral probiotic, this one has lactobacillus acidophilus, bifidobacterium bifidum, lactobacillus bulgaricus. I've actually used these, at the suggestion of a homeopath, by inserting one capsule into the vagina before bedtime, every night until symptoms abate. I will warn you, however, that you may experience a less-than-pleasent smell from down there if you should try this. Despite that, it does work, and even my worst, most painful or itchy symptoms become manageable in less than a day.

Unfortunately, Gy-Na-Tren is a little expensive ($25 per 14-cap bottle) and Healthy Trinity is a lot expensive ($50 per 30 cap bottle).

Dr. Balch recommends, in his book _Prescription for Nutritional Healing_, that you "apply natural unprocessed and unsweetened yogurt directly into the vagina or mix one small container of plain yogurt with an equal amount of water and use it as a douche once or twice daily until you see an improvement. You can also open two capsules of acidophilus and add the contents to a douche. This helps inhibit the growth of the fungus [candida]."

Some other things, non-yogurt-related:

You can also take 1000-2000mg of caprillic acid daily with meals. This stuff is a naturally occurring fatty acid that acts as an antifungal. Your intestines will soak it up pretty quickly, so get the timed-release or enteric-coated capsules so that it hangs out in your system long enough to be the most effective.

Stay away from antibiotics, steriods, birth control (unless you absolutely have to take it) and anything resembling sugar (cane sugar, honey, fructose, maple syrup, anything starchy or carb-y like potatos and pasta, et al). If you have a history of reoccurring yeast infections, a more long-term removal of these things from your diet is advisable.

In my experience, antimicrobials like ti (or tea) tree oil and grapefruit seed extract are hard on the sensitive skin around and inside the vagina. Both work when used in a douche, but if you're in pain at the moment or have rather sensitive skin in general, you might want to go easy with these remedies.

Mentioned by kclovebugs420 above, garlic is also a good antimicrobial, used internally or externally (or both!). You might also try olive leaf extract (internally), which is considered to be a very potent antimicrobial. Reishi mushrooms are, too. All of these things can be bought at your local health foods /supplements store in capsule, liquid and/or loose herb forms.

I hope you feel better soon!

Heres a few of my recipes for natural yeast infection remedies hope they help I hate yogurt as well =b

ANTI - YEAST TEA

Each day drink three cups of the following tea between meals or a half hour before eating.

2 parts SAGE
2 parts MULLEIN ,
2 parts RASPBERRY LEAF
1/4 part GOLDENSEAL

Use four to six tablespoons of herb mixture per quart of water. Add herbs to cold water and bring to a simmer over low heat. Keep pot covered. Remove from heat immediately and let steep twenty minutes. Strain. This tea will be quite bitter, so you may wish to mix it with cranberry juice.

DOUCHE FOR YEAST INFECTIONS

you may douche every few days (or if the infection is severe, each day) with the following formula:

1/2 ounce Anti - Yeast Tea (recipe above)

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon acidophilus culture or 1/4 cup yogurt

Tiny drop of TEA TREE OIL

Steep the herb formula in one quart of water for one hour. Strain. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. When the mixture has sufficiently cooled(it should be warm, but not hot) place in a douche bag, and very gently, using a slow flow, douche with the mixture.

GARLIC SUPPOSITORIES FOR YEAST INFECTIONS

Quick to make, easy to apply, and very effective, garlic suppositories are a favorite remedy of many women.

~ Carefully peel a clove of GARLIC

(Some women caution against nicking the garlic in the peeling process as they claim the oil can burn the vaginal lining. Most women don't find this a problem, and say that the garlic should be nicked or bruised in order for the disinfecting oil to be released. If you have a particularly sensitive vaginal lining, it is better to be careful when preparing the garlic.)

~ Wrap a piece of thin gauze around the garlic , fold the gauze in half, and twist into a tail. It will look vaguely like a homemade tampon with a tail.

~ Insert the garlic suppository well inside the vaginal cavity. For easier insertion, a small amount of oil can be rubbed on the end of the suppository.

A fresh suppository should be inserted every three to five hours and the old one removed. Repeat for three to five days until the infection is gone

There is no need to do that.

Go to the store vitamin section and get a bottle of Acidophilus. Just take the tablets as directed on the bottle. That's what I always do. (And I don't like to drink cranberry juice for a urinary tract infection, so I take the cranberry tablets.)

If you can't find them or forget the name, just ask the pharmacist where are those yogurt substitute pills?

You don't eat yogurt to cure yeast infections, you douche with it. Make sure you use organic plain yogurt. It can take longer than the over-the-counter stuff (I think there's a one dose Monistat available now). Try it and see if it works for you.
