Having some experience with EBay, hopefully, this will give you some insight. To really make it with EBay and/or Amazon, you have to "specialize" in a much needed, preferably higher ticket item. --Just making pictures of items in your house that you want to sell, does not get the job done. You also will need (if earnest about a profitable biz.), a good looking website displaying top quality pictures and description of your goods. Buying from the markets, for example in Atlanta, and scout others - and purchase in bulk is your best bet for profit.
I collect china and glassware of which some of the pieces I paid a pretty penny. But up for sale, didn't get close to my asking price. Packing and Shipping gets involved, and other mundane items i.e. a counter to see how many have/are visiting your store. PayPal is your best bet for your account setup. Will you take credit cards? Many things to think of.
For $800/mo, it would take several items to sell, or consider items in the $75-100 category. Gadgets are hot and beware of those who want to sell you, online, wholesale products.
I had run out of product, and the only thing left to do was take a risk and hit the markets. Of course, that means upfront spending for your store. Are you a risktaker? Product and presentation is the key.

Lots of people make great money selling on eBay everyday of the week, and a lot do not. Having the right sources for implementing such an endeavor do take time, but is not beyond the scope of the average person.
If you are home business minded and want to learn, there is no reason why you cannot do the same. All it takes is the desire and aptitude to do some research and work.

I would go to garage sales, antique stores and second hand stores. Then sell the items on eBay.
Its how I paid for my college education.
You just got to be consistent. Some times things don't sell at all... then your stuck with them (your own garage sale would take care of that)...
Good luck

base on a 10% profit/overhead you would have to turn onver about $7000,00 worth of inventory each month to make $800.00. if you have the inventory and the time to keep replacing it i would say go for it -- but i would not plan on this as my main source of income.
