What about the freedom of the non-smoker to breathe clean air? I had eye surgery 13 years ago for glaucoma and have a permanent filter (hole) in my eyeball. Because of this, I am very sensitive to vapors which include cigarette smoke. I can't be around it in an enclosed room for any period of time without a bloodshot, aching eye. The adverse affects on others outweighs the privilege of the smoking. Probably not what you want to hear.

Yes it is a freedom, but do it in your own area. By smoking near others you endanger them, children and adults. Second hand smoke is just as bad or worse than directly smoking. Some of us are allergic to smoke, causing severe asthma and congestion/sinus reactions.
We go into buildings and restaurants and bars to enjoy our selves, not to come out smelling like cigarette smoke. It's nice to know I can go to a bar and not worry about having to drink enough fluids just so my allergeries don't kick, and still have them act up just because of the cigarette smoke
I can smell it on people at work and its a disgusting smell

Ok - so what about my freedoms? I'm not allowed to go into a restaurant to eat without fear of hospitalization due to an allergic reaction to your cigarette, because you have a right to smoke?
Sorry, I'm happily moving to a state that bans smoking within 15 feet of any public or government building - and I'm thrilled beyond belief about it.

are you SO thick headed you cant understand someone elses point of view in relation to this topic?
are you SO selfish you cant see the destructive strength of your habit?
are you so foolish as to think you can escape lung cancer, emphysema, asthma or COPD?
Its ok. I used to be just like you, now I have emphysema, asthma and COPD. And I quit ... because it hurts like hell when I wake up in the middle of the night with my throat and lungs swollen shut and I cant get a molecule of air in. In the years 1994-2000, that happened over 45 times. ..documented for my physician.

Second hand smoke is deadly. Thanks to my step-father smoking I have asthma and will have it forever. I hope I never develop cancer from it. This isn't something that only hurts you, it hurts everyone around you who also has to breathe in the poison.
