I'm a middle /junior high school teacher so I know I am going to be facing some very timid and wide-eyed newbies in August when school starts. But just as I am telling them, I'll tell you - it's no big deal! You'll have the hang of things in one week! But here are some tips for you:
1. Always be yourself. Smile and be open to meeting new people.
2. Don't be so hard on yourself if people don't readily come up to you and befriend you..like you -everybody is checking everybody out.
3. Don't be overwhelmed by the increase in numbers. There are going to be more students.
4. Learn your locker number, combination, homeroom teacher and other classroom numbers and schedules early.
5. Check your teachers out. Find one that you really like and let that teacher be your 'pal'. If you have any questions about the school, safety, etc. ask that teacher to help you.
6. Get an agenda or planner and make sure you write down your assignments, questions, etc. Let the teacher talk -and don't interrupt until he or she is finished. Write your questions down and ask later.
7. Check out the room. Many times teachers will post information you will need to know. Get your bearings down.
8. Pay attention to times the bell rings, locker breaks, lunch, etc. Be punctual. Some schools have punishment for tardies.
9. Check your backpack at night to ensure you have all your books, homework assignments, notes, money, etc. (The worse excuse a teacher can hear is "I left my homework at home".) Not acceptable - if you are organized.
10. Get a Peer Partner - someone in every class who is a friend that you can call for homework, etc in case you are absent.
11. Make sure you understand all assignments, projects and dates due. You will be expected to be more grown up and more resposible.
12. I don't know if your school allows cell phones, but in our system, you can't have it on during school hours. Some students don't honor the code - but if you don't need the cell phone or other techno toys - please leave them at home. I have heard the cries of too many of my students for stolen cell phones, iPods, etc.
Develop good study habits, broaden your organizational skills, make sure you or your parents have mapped out your route to school, who's picking you up, emergencies, etc. Your teacher might ask students for supplies- that's natural. There is so much more I could tell you, but I think you have plenty to work with. One final thing, middle school is fun. It is going to be a testing ground for high school. Don't bully anyone and don't allow anyone to bully you.
Make sure you go to bed early enough to get a good night's rest and PLEASE eat breakfast in the morning. Your body will need that energy so you can stay awake and be focused to do a good job.
I wish you the best - and let us know (the community) how things are going with you. Feel free to email me if you have other questions.
P.S, Don't worry about the boys - they are going to be LOUD and SILLY...(smile) and the teachers will be NICE!!

Don't let anyone pressure you into doing something that makes you feel uncomfortable. Be yourself, don't try to be fake, be polite to your teachers, and everything will fall into place. Junior high can be tons of fun if you let it! If you have to share a locker with someone you don't know, don't store anything valuable in there and establish whose shelf is whose so there are no misunderstandings about each other's stuff. If you have trouble making friends, join an extracurricular activity, and even if you already have friends at your junior high from elementary school, joining after school activities is a good idea. Good luck!

you will be fine it is not like it is shown on t.v.,middle school (junior high) is actually fun because you are the "babies" of the school), this may seem obvious but don't give into peer pressure,
Lockers:If i were you i wouldn't store any valuables in your locker (iPods cellphone) because one person sees you put your stuff in your locker they will find away to get it.
Boys: my friends all had boyfriends and they caused them tears so i wouldn't reccomend it but if you want to don't let it go to your head. Be yourself around people (boys too if you don't want to take my advise)
Teachers: Teachers are THERE TO HELP YOU!!!!!!!!!!! Dont be afaraid to ask questions chances are someone else probably has the same question as you but just be too shy to ask so they (and you) will be alot happier.
Notes:Take good notes! Good handwriting always helps and doodling makes your notes harder to read, underline important information or write it in a different color maybe pink or black.
Friends: Be yourself and don't change yourself to be "POPULAR" being popular is good with your friends but with all of the people who aren't popular will not like you much!!
Bullies: Ignore them and they WILL go away after they realize that you are not aknowledging them. Remember this most bullies only bully because they HAVE BEEN bullied!!
*DO NOT BE SCARED!!!!!! If you want more tips e-mail me and i will write back to help!!!

Hmm, junior high was fun, don't worry. Go in there with confidence like you've been doing it for years and you'll be alright. Everybody has to adjust as well so everybodys feeling what you are.
