Do you need to be able to write great persuasive essays to be a writer? I mean, fantasy writing really has nothing to do with persuasive essays. I dislike writing essays, and I am wondering if that will create problems for me as a writer. If you are a published author, please offer some words of wisdom, thanks.

To be a successful writer you need, most of all, to have a detailed outline in your head and on paper to show a publisher and/or agent. You have to have a great deal of patience. And yes, you must be persuasive to sell your product. That doesn't necessarily mean writing an essay to be persuasive. It means that you must effectively sell your concept to a market that is in need of it. I have been published and those are the best words of wisdom I can give you. Most of all, you need to be tough. Rejection letters can be frustrating and discouraging, but never stop moving forward because you receive them. That's where the patience comes into play. You need a LOT of it to keep your dream alive. Good luck to you!

Most Universities, have a professional writer teaching writing, usually, in the evening.

The positive side is the author/teacher, has had books published and, may discuss this this during his classes.

Hmm, I'd think the first thing you need as a fantasy writer is to be able to persude your reader that your world is real. If you are a writer, you will learn something from all forms of writing. Some of it won't apply to what you do; much of it will. You have to be open to the things that will make your words stronger.

It's all just words. Learn to use them; they are the nuts and bolts of what you want to do.

You will also need to persuade people to read/buy your story, should you ever make it to publication.

Published authors probably are not spending time here... that field is very tight now. If you write do it for the pleasure of doing so because it is nearly impossible to break into the business and earn a decent living as a writer.

But if you love doing it, go ahead and enjoy.
